Pia Bratianu School -Romania
a) Visit to the Municipal Library (ex: online meeting) - Rediscovering the beauty of books and interaction with a writer;
Visiting libraries is not possible anymore due to the pandemic but we organised virtual tours of several famous libraries in Europe. As most students have already visited the National Library of Bucharest, they suggested visiting other libraries they haven’t seen before. 6 classes (180 students and 7 teachers) were involved in this activity. The main purpose was to remind the children the beauty of books in this era of technology and e-books. Preserving priceless pieces of writing and cultural heritage is part of our project’s aims.
b) Workshop: Cinema Day November 8th, 2020;
Getting in touch with famous cultural personalities (actors, directors) is another way to get children closer to art and culture. Class 2 E (35 students) had an online activity with a Romanian film actor Mr Codin Maticiuc who talked to them about what it is like to be an actor and a famous person. The students asked their own questions trying to find out as many “secrets” as possible from the life of a star. AS both the students and the guest really enjoyed this activity, a new meeting will be organised in the near future.
Other students (4 classes -120 students) created posters of their favourite films and made presentations in which they tried to convince the audience that it was a film worth watching. The film that got most votes was watched by the students as a follow-up activity.
c) walk/trip/visit around the town to visit different monuments/sites (in local or online);
This activity also needed to be adapted because of the pandemic. The primary students ( 95 students from 3 different classes) made presentations of some famous places, monuments, buildings in Bucharest. They shared with their colleagues interesting information, photos and amazing facts about the landmarks they chose to talk about. This way a valuable cultural lesson was delivered by the students to the students.
d) Literature: The Living Library – “In a Writer’s Shoes...”.
The special guest in this activity was Mrs Andreea Micu -writer of books for children. She presented the students her latest creation – the adventures of Gose the gander, and the children were really excited to ask her lots of questions about the story and not only. It was an activity full of laughter and positive energy whose aim was to stimulate the students’ appetite for reading and the pleasure of discovering new exciting worlds inside books from the writers themselves.
